iPad, iPhone, iLove my life
iPad day 1 in the UK and out of the blue I end up with one of Apple's uber cool new toys.
I've spent months watching the story un-fold from rumour to official un-veiling to US launch and finally today the iPad was unleashed on the UK public. Like so many Apple launches there were cues down the high streets, like so many of Steve Jobs plans the PR coverage was compelling, like so many of todays tech stories there was controversy.
Is the iPad the third way for web consumption? After just seven hours I have to say it's doing a great job, I've visited all of my usual sites, checked my photos and read more blog posts than I have in months. I can even blog from it, no additional keyboard, no strange stand to hold it up just get on and type. Functional? Yes
Is it a big iPhone or a confused net book? Up until today I was afraid it was, Apps check, iTunes check, same browser check, but wait the big screen makes material much ore consumable, the format makes far more user friendly than a net book and in true Apple style the UI just works in a way you can't explain. It's just friendly.
I want to do more, take the extra time to read the whole article and make the effort to comment on what I've seen, what I've heard, what I've felt. bait like my desktop but on the road.
It's no big iPhone, if anything it's more net book than iPhone but having used net books it's not one of them either. It's easier with the touch screen, web apps and accelerometer it's just an iPad.
It's early days for the iPad and like so many pieces of tech it suffers the risk of early excitement follow by poor application, cheep development and being over taken by the competition. Already Google have announced their own tablet and there are rumours out of Germany of a more powerful tablet with USB and a SD card reader not to mention a camera.
All that said I'm loving it so far and I can't see that changing this side of Christmas...2012.
Thanks for a great new toy Steve Job, Apple and most importantly my wife who said yes.
