Uptons of Bassett - Lemon and Ginger Marmalade

Uptons of Bassett - Lemon & Ginger Marmalade

I recently visited a new supplier, although Uptons of Bassett been around for a while and current owner Simon Broadribb has been there since 1994. Based in Bassett, Southampton it is perfectly located for the large local population.

Uptons has recently been through a huge refurbishment and their new store is a joy to visit, has a wonderful ambience and is laid out in such a way that shopping is a pleasure. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful and willing to make time for a chat, I found there advice in valuable in planning my Steak and Kidney Pudding for this week extremely helpful.

As well as picking up the steak and Kidney I picked up a fabulous jar of their own brand Lemon & Ginger Marmalade, made by The Hampshire Jam & Chutney Company it is just another great example of local businesses supporting each other. The jam has a beautiful spicy citrus aroma, the texture is chunky and the flavour is warm, rich and deep with lovely lemony bite. It was perfectly matched with my English breakfast muffins and a mug of coffee, I love the opportunity to blog about great local businesses and what they are doing, it's even better when I get to talk about two in one day.

Enjoy

Bacon & Marmalade Toastie

Bacon & Marmalade Toastie

A completely new and tasty sandwich for today, after a great day out in Romsey and a visit to the Farmers Market new recipe to follow with the lovely Alex she shared her recipe for the Bacon & Marmalade Toastie. Initially I was a little apprehensive but I have to admit this works, crisp salty bacon, sweet fruity marmalade go together fabulously. I used wholemeal toast instead of white and it was probably a bad idea, this needs a softer toast, will follow instructions next time.

Quick, easy and very tasty you should give this a go.
