Many photographers I know and many more I've read comments from on websites and blogs ask this question, "How do I involve my partner".
I've always heard the same solution 'give them the camera, let them take a photo' and I'm not saying that it's wrong it just didn't work for me, my wife (Natalie) 'had' no interest in my camera, the artistry in taking pictures or the size of my lenses.
So I tried a different approach, what does Natalie like doing? and hey we've been together for eight years and have three kids how am I supposed to know. At this point I did something I don't do enough of and enjoyed it, I sat and had a conversation with my wife. I asked questions, she asked questions, I listened to the answers, she listend to the answers and hey presto baking.
Yes baking, Natalie loves to do it , the final product is always photogenic and most importantly we can share it / them over a glass of wine when we're done. Natalie loves her baking so she wants her cakes, muffins loaves etc. to look thier best she gets involved in composition and lighting, is happy to look at the thumbnails and comment on favorites and even croppoing.
Now I'm not sayng she loves every bit of it or entirely gets what all the fuss is about but it does give us a lot of enjoyment and two more activities we can do together.
I'd like to thank Natalie for sharing great cakes and her life with me, a late post from a sick blogger.
